Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

 

The Idaho Falls Habitat for Humanity affiliate was founded in 1994. A total of 18 homes have been completed with families to date. Our affiliate builds green, smart and energy-efficient homes. The first Energy Star rated home in Idaho was built by the Idaho Falls affiliate. Five Energy Star homes have been built since 2003. Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller. Over 150,000 home have been built. The average price of U.S. built homes is $46,000. The price of homes built outside of the U.S. varies from $800 to $5,000.

 

There are more than 2,300 active Habitat for Humanity affiliates in 100 countries, including all 50 states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

 

Habitat for Humanity of Idaho State Support movement was started when Pam Peterson from Palouse Habitat and Verne Blalack from Silver Valley Habitat attended a Habitat for Humanity International training session in 1995. There they became aware of the possibilities a state organization could provide in resources development. As a result of this meeting 12 Habitat for Humanity affiliated organizations have been founded in Idaho.
