Volunteers are the driving force behind Idaho Falls Area Habitat for Humanity. We are grateful to those dedicated people who contribute a day, a week, a few months, and in some cases, years to give Habitat’s vision a tangible form.

, a four person household with both parents working a forty hour week cannot make enough to survive much less thrive. Homelessness is very much present in Idaho. The Idaho Point in Time Homeless count taken on January 27, 2021 showed 1314 homeless individuals. Although the exact number of families whose housing is insecure has not been defines, the increase in the number of families receiving assistance at local food banks and soup kitchens is a strong indicator that the need for secure, affordable housing is increasing drastically. HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM 123_1006.jpg 123_1007.jpeg 123_1008.jpeg Habitat for Humanity is a homeownership program that empowers families to build a new life for themselves through the stability and security of owning their own home. Habitat homes are not given away, but are sold to families who qualify, are willing to put in hundreds of hours of labor (called Sweat Equity), and are able to make a monthly mortgage payment. Habitat homes are affordable because Habitat does not make a profit; homes are sold with a no-interest (0%) loan and are mostly built by volunteers. Selected families are partners in every sense of the word. They contribute 300 hours of sweat equity building their own home, helping build homes of other partner families as well as volunteering in the local ReStore, helping with fundraisers along with other opportunities that may arise. Homebuyers also participate in classes that help to prepare for homeownership. Our program is not a quick housing solution. It can take a minimum of 12 months, typically longer, from the time of application before a family can move into their HABITAT home. Construction of the home is complex and can have multiple delays based on supplies and contractors. Meeting all application requirements does not guarantee family selection PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Residency o Resident of East Idaho for a minimum of 1 year o U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or documented right to work in the United States. Housing Need: o Electrical, plumbing or heating issues in current home o Lead based paint or asbestos found in current home o Overcrowding of space available o Temporary housing or shelter o Mold or other health issues present in the home. Willingness to Partner: o Willing to partner with Habitat in the building of your home or to make special arrangements if necessary due to physical limitations or disability. o Complete 300 hours of sweat equity time during the building of the home. Income: o Your household income must fall within the current Income Limits and you must meet the debt to income ratio requirements. Currently opportunities are Tues thru Saturday 8:30 - 3:30 The activities of the day can vary and may include painting, framing, roofing, landscaping, and more. No previous construction experience is required!

Tuesday thru Saturday opportunities. ReStore volunteers greet customers, clean and test products, organize and load/unload donations.

Weekday opportunities. This position could include data entry, filing, as well as other office projects.

You do not! There are trained staff and volunteers on site to help you through every task. All we need is your heart for help and the hunger to learn.
We know you want to be as safe as you can be and sometimes, that means you need to know what to expect before coming on site. There are many different tasks at the build site and in the ReStore. There will always be training and supervision available.
There are several safety training classes you can need to complete before you volunteer.

Yes you may! The construction crew and volunteers always appreciate coffee on a cold morning, lunch, or cold water on a hot day. Please email for details on a day and # of crew/volunteers who will be there.

If you have tools you prefer to use, you are more than welcome to bring those to the site with you, however, Habitat does provide all necessary tools and instructions on site.

Please contact us directly. While we love our little builders, but, if a volunteer is under the age of 18 we need to assess the task and the age, and make sure we have enough supervision to be safe.
They can also help out in the ReStore.
There is also a separate waiver to be signed by parent/guardian for those those under 18. Please office@idahofallshabitat.org with questions.

We want our Habitat volunteers to be as safe as possible. Please review the details below for appropriate volunteer attire so you may have the safest experience possible
• Closed toed/heel shoes.
• Jeans or long pants- please no shorts
• Please no tank tops.
• Please keep in mind that tasks can sometimes include messy work. Be sure to wear clothing you do not mind getting a little dirty or painted on.
You are not required to bring anything with you to a volunteer opportunity at a build site, but we have listed some highly encouraged items below.
• Bottled water, we will have some water on site.
• Snacks if desired.
• Sunscreen is highly recommended.
• Hats are optional.
